ABOUT THE COLLECTION

Ancient Civilization

Fall/winter 2019

At the beginning of this year, I visited the MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) to see a temporary exhibition focused in gold artifacts from South American ancient civilizations. The designs and the different inspirations where so beautiful that I thought it would be an interesting topic to explore for a collection.

Mayas, Incas, Aztecs had a deep connection with nature and animals, so many of my pieces are inspired by that, and there was a variety of them: spiders, lizards, bats, birds, snakes, jaguars, monkeys, turtles, crabs and clams.

The curator of the exhibition made a fantastic job when selecting the different fabrics, and objects, mostly from noble families. Feathers with vibrant colors and some fun geometric prints were used prominently at that time.

The wealthy's people had the right to wear particularly beautiful clothes and consume luxury, an accessories. Other materials that this ancient civilization used where jade stones and corals.

My collection was inspired by these artifacts, and includes prints, geometric shapes, and a selection of natural textures and fabrics.
